Question banks
Is UWorld Enough for Step 2 CK? When a Second Question Bank Helps
Is UWorld alone enough for Step 2 CK? What the evidence says, who can stop at one bank, when a second bank helps and what to add for weak areas.
By MedPrep Institute Editorial Team · Published · 6 min read
UWorld is the default Step 2 CK question bank, and its Step 2 CK bank lists 4,250+ questions. Whether it is enough on its own is one of the most common questions students ask. The honest answer is: often, with caveats.
The short answer
Many students do well with UWorld as their main bank, paired with NBME and UWSA practice exams and careful review of misses. Even sources that sell competing banks say UWorld alone works for many candidates. A second bank is optional, and it helps most in specific cases.
Who can stop at UWorld
- You have a strong clerkship base and high baseline knowledge.
- You can protect full-time dedicated study.
- You review every explanation and re-test missed topics yourself.
When a second bank helps
- You keep missing the same concepts and are not re-testing them on a schedule.
- You finished UWorld, or most of it, and still have weak systems.
- You want different question styles or more volume in specific areas.
- You need a lower-cost way to extend practice time past your UWorld plan.
One caution from prep guides: a second bank that doubles your time without doubling your learning is not worth it. Choose it for a specific job.
